3v3 Developmental League (K-2nd)

Our 3v3 Developmental League is designed for players in Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd grade to learn the fundamental skills of basketball while having fun and developing a love for the game. The league is geared towards the new or inexperienced player, which creates a great jumping off point for young children to not only learn the game, but fall in love with the game of basketball.

Each session lasts an hour and consists of skill development, a lesson from one of our GABL Game Managers, and a 3-on-3 game in which players have the opportunity to apply the skills they have learned. Teams are based on elementary school, gender, and grade. Teams are generally composed of 6 players in order to provide each player equal playing time. If too many or too few players register individually from one school, they will be combined with players from other elementary schools. All teams will use a 27.5" ball and hoops are lowered to 8-foot goals.

  • We accept team and individual registrations.
  • Teams are gender- and grade-based, not age-based. No coed teams.
  • All players receive a jersey and a participation award.
  • Sessions are one-hour in length and include both instruction and competition.
  • Each session consists of warm-up/skill development time and a 3-on-3 game in which players have the opportunity to apply the skills they have learned. Games consist of two 15-minute halves and a brief half time. The clock runs continuously, stopping about every 5 minutes for substitutions.

Winter 5v5 League (1st-7th Grade)

Our Fall League is designed for boys and girls teams in 1st grade through 8th grade. Each team will play a 6-week season starting in September.

Teams who win first place in their division will receive an award at the end of the season.

Fall registration will be handled on an individual basis. Players who register individually may request a coach while completing this process. Individuals without a coach or team may register and we will form teams when possible. Teams can purchase and reserve practice time when they register by selecting YES in the registration.

Teams will  not be provided uniforms. It will be up to the head coach to order uniforms for their teams. Coaches can reach out to our contact, Jock's Nitch, for all jersey orders.

Goal height and ball size will be based on grade level of the teams competing.

Middle School Short Season (7th & 8th Grades)

Our Middle School Short Seasons are designed for 7th and 8th grade boys & girls who plan on playing during the school season at their middle school.  Each team must have a minimum of 8 players on their rosters and will play 7 games and is specifically designed to not interfere with the middle school basketball season. All games will be played within the SMSD and Olathe areas. All teams will also receive one practice per week throughout the season. Like games, all practices will be held within the SMSD and Olathe areas. Practice times and dates will be allocated once a team is fully registered.

Teams that are already formed are welcomed to join our Winter League. But if an individual registers and does not have a team, they will be placed on an available team within their grade and gender (pending team availability). Uniforms are provided for all 7th and 8th grade boys teams.

High School Season

The GABL High School Basketball League offers students in 9th–12th grades a competitive and organized basketball experience during the winter season. Registration for the 2025–26 season opens September 1 and closes December 13, with games taking place on Sundays from January 11th through February 22nd. Each team plays eight games, held on Sundays at Shawnee Mission and Olathe School District facilities, as well as select private gyms across the metro area.

All teams must have a minimum of eight and a maximum of twelve players, and every team is required to have an adult coach who is at least 21 years old and present at all games. Players must be part of a team to register, and all participants will register individually. While practice time is not included with registration, official league jerseys are provided and must be worn during all games. Whether you're looking to stay competitive, play with friends, or simply enjoy the game, the GABL High School League offers a structured and exciting way to keep basketball in your life.
