GABL & Hoops 4 Hope – Supporting the Fight Against Cancer

The GABL Youth Sports Foundation proudly partners with Hoops 4 Hope, donating proceeds from select events to benefit the Cancer Action Network.
Learn more about their mission at www.canceractionkc.org.

Hoops 4 Hope was founded by family members Kate Brunk, Jennifer Dehan, and John Dehan, who came together with a shared goal: to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

John Dehan has a long-standing history with GABL—beginning as a player on one of the first teams, later becoming a basketball official, coach, board member, and staff member. He was inducted into the GABL Court of Honor in 2009, making the partnership between Hoops 4 Hope and the Foundation a natural fit.

New Year Tip-Off Tournament

  • The first New Year Tip-Off Tournament was held in January 2008 and remains the primary fundraising event of the partnership.
  • The tournament is open to boys and girls in grades 4–8.
  • In Fall 2009, the Preseason Tournament was added, further expanding fundraising efforts.
  • Each tournament hosts 60–80 teams annually.

Impact & Donations

Thanks to this ongoing collaboration, nearly $50,500 has been donated over five years.
In 2012 alone, a donation of $16,000 was made to support the cause.

Together, we continue to use the power of sport to give back and support meaningful change in our community.
